In the process of remodeling our kitchen.

Pulled out the old dishwasher.

Romex looks to have been smashed hard about 1 ft from the end. It's "probably" fine but for peace of mind I'm considering two options.

1. Cut the circuit above the damage. Splice it to a new section via a junction box in the wall behind the dishwasher. Junction box would have a faceplate with a single punch out/clamp to secure the new section of circuit.

2. Same option as above except..run the new leg of circuit to the left and install a new receptacle next to the other one you see. The current outlet is switched and controls the disposal. I could install another 1 gang box and create an outlet for the dishwasher to do plug in style.

I'm leaning towards option #1. Am I missing something? I'm no electrician but can't think of an issue with splicing the current 12-2 in a J-box behind the DW and running my new undamaged leg and continuing to utilize a hardwired Dishwasher.

Thoughts??

Just remember that Junction boxes and recepticals need to be easily accessible and not hidden behind heavy objects or drywall.

What does "smashed" look like? Is any wire exposed? It's always hard when you're not sure about the condition of a wire. Better safe than sorry is the rule.

No wire exposed. It looks like it was pinched smashed between a corner of the bottom plate on the wall behind and the dishwasher. It's deformed a bit. I'll try to snap another pic and post it.

Good point about not wanting a j-box tucked behind a dishwasher.
