Hi-
I purchased a sold core door to replace the hollow core one we previously had. The new door feels 3x heavier than the old one.

Should I pull out the little screws holding the door hinges to the wall and replace with the long 2" or so that come with them? Also should I do the same with the door or will the shorty screws hold it ok?

Thx

You can buy security screws made for exterior doors and they better match the look you want. I think they are 3" but yes the tie into the stud behind the jam and will give you more support. I think for the door you want to find the right size drill to pre drill a hole for long screws.

Is the door also 1 3/8" like interior doors? Angled corner like it also may not have 2x frame near the jamb. Check with a wire first to get the length screw you need. Screw should go into the solid frame at least an inch. Screw heads for the hinges are #8 or 9 screws. I use #8 screws although little smaller than the hinge screws.

Usually the short screws that come with the hinges are ok if snugged up carefully. If you blast them in with a screw gun and strip the holes then you will have problems. Our FH house had that problem. That said, I usually probe the holes to see what is there and if possible I put a couple of longer screws in the top hinge. The others don’t need it.

Yes, I checked and it's 1 3/8" thick. I will poke around a bit and check the depth since its so close to the cabinet around the ovens. Thanks everyone.
