I am looking for somebody who can build me a similar set of stairs as this picture.

I have contacted 2 different handymen that claim they can build stairs, but both said that i need to work with a contractor that it was not a handyman job. when i contacted a local contractor he said his company was unable to do that type of work and did not know of any others in the area

Are they just being lazy? why can i not find anybody who will do build this for me? If the economy is so tough i would think that they would be jumping to get jobs like this.

Just about anyone can build stairs, but that stair case requires a craftsman!

Like Andy said, it ain't gonna be cheap!

Why the cut rate, Andy?

Why would you contact a handyman to build stairs? I have framed a few sets with one twist, I don't think having the second twist would be much different.

Building the stairs is one thing, bending the rail and completing the balustrade is another.

I've seen enough of these things built to know that your average career carpenter has little to no experience in a staircase like that. I'd bet dollars to dimes they don't have the proper equipment on hand to do it correctly either.

There are people who occasionally, frequent this place - who are
"Master" Stair Builders.
Seen "Pics" of their work - "OMG"!
Talk about "ART WORK"!!!
I have a friend who can do stuff like that - in the midst of it - he does
not want anybody watching - not even me!!
(We're buddies! - but, I understand!) :)

A Stair builder is the trade you want---There are three here that I know of. Let's see if one of them steps in.

I have to admit that I have my hands full with just a standard spiral staircase.

The radius stairs are not too horribly difficult, (if you know how) just a lot of figuring and a lot work and a lot of time. For a rail on a 9 foot ceiling it will take an average of 64 "C" clamps. Millertyme and Keith are still in business building custom stairs and are at the top of their profession, I am retired now and don't take on any work, maybe one of them will pop in here in a little while. One thing is for sure, you won't get a handyman to build a case like the one you want.

I had one rail that took me 28 days to build but that was one of the tough ones. Trying to explain how to build a stairs like the one you want would take way more time than most would be willing to try explain.

I've been a woodworker for years and would say it would take months to build those stairs. I would guess at least $20-$25, 000. They would need to set up a complete shop on-site.
