I have a half switched outlet, and the switched part works perfect, but the constant outlet does not work. Tester says open neutral, and plugged in items do not work. The top switched part works fine. Leviton outlet and replaced outlet and same problem. Any suggestions?

The person who installed the receptacle cut the tab on the neutral side. If half of the receptacle has a neutral and the other half does not the the has to be cut. Only the tab on the hot side needs to be cut.

99% sure that tab is intact. Will check during the day, Monday, and verify with continuity test. Had swapped out outlets in case of a defect.

Sorry about double post, but thought I posted in wrong area, and could not find anyway to delete post.

Really not clear on the original outlet, which I think was half switched, but outlet in next room, the entire outlet was switched. Swapped out years ago improperly, and just did not use it. I screwed up and did not break tab.

This is USA, and original outlet was 2 prong.
