Hello everyone. I was looking for a DIY home owners forum and this looked like the best one on the net. I will be posting some questions in the proper threads. Thank you in advance...73...(Best Regards)...Matt
It's a JEEP thing,...WE UNDERSTAND...LOL. The link in your sig line takes me to that forum but will not let me see anything unless I become a member and then log in. See my rig and more about me here Jeep brother. I own and run a 4x4 forum and build and manage them as well for other off road organizations. Wait, then I bought a house and got married a few years ago so now...lots of work and less web work time and more needed time on the house and that's why I am on this SUPER COOL and Well Put Together forum. Oh and as to your question I am in the High Desert near Victorville off Interstate 15Welcome.....looks like you are a fellow jeeper.....
What part of LA?
I have a 'slightly modified' CJ7 (see the link in my signature)
...SWEET...:smile:I didn't even have to read the first page to recognize John Bull.
Spent many a day in Big bear....I used to help out with the JJ up there (trail leader)
I need to finish the D44 Flat top sitting on my driveway and get back up there.
I've got 2 boys (boy scouts) and I plan to do some serious off roading and camping with them next year.
VERY COOL, Big Bear is one of my favorite places to go 4 wheeling as I went to High School in Big Bear Lake. Hey ever been 4 wheeling in Calico, Stoddard Wells (Cal 4 Wheel does there event there every year) or the HAMMERS in Johnson Valley (King Of The Hammers...I was in the club that built THE HAMMERS) here in the High Desert of So Cal. Great places to go 4 wheeling...MATT...I didn't even have to read the first page to recognize John Bull. Spent many a day in Big bear....I used to help out with the JJ up there (trail leader).
I'm surprised we haven't bumped into each other in Big Bear.VERY COOL, Big Bear is one of my favorite places to go 4 wheeling as I went to High School in Big Bear Lake. Detroit makes a great locker. I have a Detroit lunch box style locker in the front Dana 30 on my TJ and a full Detroit locker in the Dana 44 in the back on 35s and have never had any issues even with 35 X 14.5 Super Swamper boggers no issues. I could air those SW Boggers down to 5 pounds and they worked great. Those are HEAVY tires...axle breakers as we say. A friend of mine had a true trac and destroyed the helical gears in it. Hey what city are you in ?Side note.....still on the fence for the front locker. My current D30 has a Detroit TrueTrack.....great locker....
But for the D44, I can't decide if I want selectible with no locking hubs, or locking hubs with a full Detroit.
Near LAX....4 miles from the beach.....hence, Big Bear is a good 2 hour drive....even though I have a FI v8 in my jeep....the drive still beats you up....not to mention the gas mileage.Detroit makes a great locker. 4 miles from the beach is nice, I am 45 minutes from the first trail head in Big Bear so that is good too. As to the gearing thing you are right with 35s you need more than a 4.10 ratio and 4.56 will do the job as it actually kinda takes it back to stock overall ratio but now you have the advantage of a 35 inch tire.Near LAX....4 miles from the beach.....hence, Big Bear is a good 2 hour drive....even though I have a FI v8 in my jeep....the drive still beats you up....not to mention the gas mileage.
I'm running 35's as well.....but when I do the front I'm going to swap in 4.56 gears into the rear....my 4.11's are just a little to low.
84 CJ7....5.7L FI out of a 93 Chev PU...4L60E Tranny....D300. AMC20 with ARB...solid axles (Yep, I've spun the stock ones). 6" SOA lift...full roll cage...custom bumpers front and rear.....4 miles from the beach is nice, I am 45 minutes from the first trail head in Big Bear so that is good too. So you have a FI V8 in your Jeep so what year is your CJ-7 ? And what do you have for a motor and trans ?
