There is, but it would kill everything else. Keep in mind, grass is actually a weed, and there are quite a few varieties of it out there. Post a picture of the culprit that you are having problems with. Easier to just go in and till with a Mantis or hand till the soil along the rows weekly, to keep them down.

The grass is St. Augustine. I live in the suburbs of New Orleans... I really can not till as it stands, there is already a sprinkler system in the garden... Would rather not, but if i had to i could take up the sprinkler system and put a new one down when finished...

If the garden is all ready growing you can use Preen.
I used the preen landscaping mulch, does not work really good.. What is the recommended depth for mulch any way? That might be my problem, no depth... So, you are saying use the preen in the shake bottle. How good does it work and how long does it take to work?

Mulch should be about 4". any less and it's useless.
If your using hardwood mulch that does nothing but break down and mold up making a great top soil for weeds and grass.
Preen will not kill grass your going to have to get in there and pull out all the roots. It's a pre emeragent. It stops new weeds from sprouting.

Like Joe said....you gotta get in there.

I find yard work to be very relaxing....one of those mindless activities....

The key is to get the grass out and keep it out with frequent care.....you can't clean it all out then wait 2-3 months....your letting the grass get a strong hold on your garden....it's one of those things you do weekly....

Me? There is hardly a day that goes by that I don't pull a couple of pieces of grass out...I walk around...see some blades...I yank them.

I don't quite understand. Do i dig the grass in the plant bed then pour the sand or do i just pour the sand on the areas where there is grass.
