Hello Folks,
I am in the final stages of our full kitchen remodel and decided to sub the countertop installation to "professionals". We chose 2cm thick granite and after researching the procedure, the contractor was contacted that I was ready for him. I prepped the cabinets for his arrival by paying a lot of attention to levelness and extra cleats near the dishwasher that I knew he would need. When he arrived for measurements, he made no template whatsoever. I asked why and he said if the walls ran off any, they would just cut the wall out to make it fit. Installation day comes, they arrive with 3/4" OSB strips to screw to the top of cabinets! I inquired about full plywood base as thats what I thought they would use. It seemed to ruffle their feathers, but they left to go get plywood. Their poor attempt at cutting the plywood proved to me they may not be "professionals". To make a long story short, what is standard procedure for installing 2cm granite? Full plywood base? Are there usually any wood cleats/strips that actually hold undermount sink in or just epoxy? The template for sink cutout isnt even close (i.e. poor radiuses, not straight lines parallel to each other). What would you do at this point? I am hoping for some installers opinions/comments. All your input is greatly appreciated!
