Got crabgrass big time in Allen, Texas

1873 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  user1007
I applied the pre emergent and I am told due to the cold weather in our area that it did not do its job so I look others have a yard full of crab grass. I have not been able to get any good input by googling on the web regarding which would be the best chemicals to use for this weed. It seems like the traditional Ortho and others are so watered down that repeat treatments are the order of the day. Does anybody have any success stories in this area. Thanks

Hey, rommel. Ken here with The Home Depot in the Chicago area.
Crabgrass is a problem all over the country. The chemicals being
watered down isn’t the problem. It’s the cold weather. The fluids in
the plant aren’t moving very fast. When it’s cold and you spray, the
chemical takes a long time to be translocated to the roots. Sometimes
it doesn’t get there. Once it gets warmer and the fluids are moving faster
you will get better control. Spray again when it’s warm.

Good luck and take care.
