gfi tripping on 14/2 wire

i just bought a house and the outlet by my sink wasnt a gfci. so i change it to a gfci. its a 15a breaker with 14/2 wire. i switch out the outlet and my gfci trips. ??? is gfci allowed with 14/2 wire?

Of course it is. Make sure you put the wires on the LINE side of the GFCI and not the load side. Also make sure you have the black on the copper screw and the white on the silver screw.
Also go down to the panel and make sure that circuit was not already on a GFCI breaker
