My kitchen has 2 gfi outlets on one circuit. From my understanding only 1 gfi is needed per circuit and it needs to be the 1st in line. Is this correct? Also will it hurt anything to have more than one in a circuit until I get them changed?

You can put as many as you want on 1 cicuit. No reason to change what you have.

You can put as many as you want on one circuit, but it is a waste of money since one can do the job of protecting them all.
