I can not use my electric smoker on a GFCI. IT always trips. Is that due to the concept of the wet wood on the element w/in the smoker? The smoker does not trip the breaker when on a drop cord from a regular outlet.

It means your smoker is going to electrocute you someday or the GFCI is bad.

Appliances function fine on modern working GFCIs, unless the appliance has a current leakage problem.

Plug it into another GFCI and see if the GFCI trips.

Sounds like your smoker has a ground fault. Probably should get that taken care of. It's dangerous.

Check for a loose connection at the receptacle.

I fiund one for a customer one time, wire not tight on the receptacle.
He only used the receptacle for his electric grill.
