Hello everyone,I hope your day is going well and as planed.

I have a question about a GFCI.

It seems to be working fine,it resets just fine. Its been outside for a year and now after the winter rains(I had the breaker off over the winter) it hisses off and on,Iam not sure if its bad though.

Any ideas?

Thank you, this seems like a wonderful forum.Iam sure Ill be on often.

God bless.

Turn the breaker back off, pull the receptacle and replace it!

Hissing means arcing, means fire could be waiting to happen!

With nothing plugged into it, you could measure the current draw into the "line" terminals.
It should only take a few dozen mA of AC to power the electronics and the LED, if it has one. Arcing and water boiling should take substantially more current and arcing should make noise in a nearby AM radio.

One possible cause (for the hissing and destruction of the GFCI receptacle) could be momentary loss of the Neutral or a power surge! In any case, it should be replaced:yes:!
