Hello. I'm currently getting a new gas furnace and air conditioning put into my 1300 sqf mobile home. I'm getting a 3 ton RUUD air conditioner with a 4 ton furnace rated at 75,000 btus and 80% efficiency. I guess that doesn't really matter, but I got a great price on them!

Anyway, I was wondering since my electrical panel is full (no room for any more breakers) the HVAC guy said he would remove one breaker and put a quadruple 30 amp breaker on it. Is this safe? I have 100 amp service. I also have an electric dryer.

I got 4 estimates, that being the best at $5000 straight with a new 16" duct from the return center of the mobile home system.

Is 3 ton too much for a 1300 sqft mobile home? All 4 estimates said that is the minimum but from what I read here, I should be getting a 1.5 ton or 2 ton system??

I can't really find most of the information you requested, unfortunately. Only thing I know about the place is how old it is, (from 1972 Greenbrier, ((these did not come with air conditioning, but was available to be later put in by replacing the furnace I was told.))

The existing furnace is the original, from 1972, a Coleman. All the other tags have worn off with time so nothing is known about the size or how many btu's it puts out. It is a simple two wire set-up, no fan option, but has 2 other wires for later hookup. It is in a closet on the outside of the mobile home.

I took off the metal siding and discovered what the insulation is, a fluffy type of material, so it's very bad at insulating I'm guessing. Note, this is a mobile home (double width), not a manufactured home.

The 4 guys that came out each said that 3 ton was needed due to it having poor insulation and due to the ducts, I needed a larger fan motor to blow the air to overcome the series of one panel sheetmetal ducts (no individual ducts here). That's why all of them mentioned such a big furnace.

I live 2 1/2 miles from the beach, in Southern California if that helps.
