Getting older and now with back problems, it is getting to be more difficult and riskier to get all those boxes of Xmas decorations up to the attic—and down. Our setup is a conventional drop-down attic ladder. I am thinking there has to be a way to rig a small block and tackle or a small electric winch that I could use to lift the boxes up and down while I am up in the attic.
I would bolt the winch or hang the block and tackle to a rafter. Let me add none of these boxes would weigh over 20-30 pounds.
Any suggestions? Or resources for this type of thing?
Not original, and may not be the answer for everyone, but we took a differnt path a few years ago. Lights that I couldn't get to work within two minutes to the dumpster, a few ornaments, etc. to nieces and younger friends, a few more to the rummage sale, some more things that we didn't need cleared out of the garage, 12' of shelves from the floor to the ceiling, and all of the decorations are within the reach of a 6' step ladder. Still have a convenient drop down ladder to the attic, but no need to go there any more, other than for mechanical access.
My wife has so much Xmas crap it is embarrassing and no amount of b*tching has reduced it over the years. I have told her that maybe she needs to buy one of those pre-made outbuildings just for the Xmas crap!
