I have a question about replacing some ceramic tile in my basement. I had a subfloor perimeter drain tile put in my basement recently. My basement was finished so we are in the process of putting it back together now. I am struggling with what to do with the ceramic tile that had to come up in the main basement area and laundry room. I need to replace about 8 tiles in the main room and 40 in the laundry room. Tiles are 12x12 and are on a concrete floor. I have 5 spare tiles that were left over from when the floor was originally installed by the previous owners. The tiles are now discontinued and I can't find any at all. Replacing all the tile is not an option as I have about 500 sq feet of tile and not willing to pay to have it all replaced as that would probably be very expensive. Here are some ideas I have. Looking for some feedback on if any if these are doable and or cost effective. Feel free to throw your ideas out there too!

1. This is what I'd like to do optimally. Since I only need 3 more than tiles in the main room, I'd like to get 3 tiles removed from the laundry room to transplant into the main room. I only need about 3/4 of each of the tiles as the ones against the wall are cut pieces, so some breakage is ok when removing from the laundry room. Then we'd just re do the tile in the laundry room (it's about 12x8) that way the main room tile is the same and the laundry room is the same. There is a wall and doorway between the two rooms.

2. Do accent tile if some kind. This is an ok option but I don't know if doing border accent around just 30% of the existing tile in the basement will look right. Might have to remove more tile and accent the entire parameter.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'd start by pealing up the laundry room and see if you can salvage enough to patch the main room.

If you can--great--if not, you will have the laundry room pealed-right?

Ya trying to think of a back up plan if for some reason I can get 3 tiles up out of the 80 or so in there. Also wanted to know if anyone has ever attempted to pull up tile and put it somewhere else.

Properly laid tiles will be near impossible to get out in one piece.
Only one way to find out if your idea will work, follow Mikes suggestion.
