Some one told my husband he could hook up a 8000 watt generator to his welder in order to supply power to our appliances. Is this possible ,and what would he need to do this?
I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say this question refers to connecting a generator using an existing welder receptacle and suicide cord. In which case, the answer is no, you cannot do this. One little mistake will kill you and/or any power company lineman working on the power lines.
If I've misinterpreted the question, then let us know and we can examine it further.
Or maybe the OP has a welder/generator combo and is wanting to connect just the generator to power the house?
OP, please clarify what it is you are wanting to do and folks here can help you better.
