So, I have a rental, the water temp is turned all the way down, but I noticed recently the water is VERY hot

I have a digital food termometer I can put into the running water, should I check it out I'm not sure if there are deg's marked on the tank thermostat or just notches.

I think the lowest setting then has vacation mode below it

Also how "accurate" is the tank settings to the digi thermometer

I usually turn the heater down a few degrees to save on Gas and primarily when my daughter was younger to stop her accidentally scaling herself ?

Any thoughts

as I said it is a rental, is it worth, rotating the dial back and forth in case the resistor has got a bit gungy

This is a replacement tank, (a couple of years now) last one blew

I also read this: but as I said my heater is like a few years old ?

"A gas water heater will not be working as efficiently if there is sediment in the tank because they heat from the bottom of the tank. ... This can lead to the elements overheating, which is why your water heater is suddenly hot. The water can absorb this heat, but it can cause your water heater to overheat"

Leaving the cold water supply valves open drain about two gallons from the bottom of the water heater. Start with a slow flow and gradually getting the flow up as high as you can.

Later (say at your leisure at least 15 minutes later) slowly turn the temperature dial up all the way, wait a few seconds, then slowly turn it down to Vacation, wait a few seconds, then slowly up all the way, then slowly back to where it was. Leave it for two days while you use hot water normally. See if there is any improvement.

Hey guy's,
Did some research, so my heater is a GSW (Sg850s40n-pv-es2)

The closest manual I could find online has the setting between LOW and HOT as 115

Water coming out of the tap is 115 LOL, feels very hot, apparently 120 is recommended for safety, low is 110deg's vacation 70

Am I going to have any problems taking it down to 110 ?
