I have installed a gas water heater and have a question about sealing the vent pipe. Where the vent pipe comes out the roof through a metal flashing/boot, the instructions say to apply silicone caulk around it, under the storm collar. Is there a special caulk I should use or will any exterior silicone caulk do? I'm wondering if there is a special caulk I'm supposed to use because of the heat coming up through the vent. The guys at HD didn't know and the guy at Lowe's told me to use some black roofing stuff ... I've never seen this used before on an exhaust vent, so I thought I'd ask this group. thanks
