Our disposal is currently controlled through an air gap, button on top of counter behind sink. We are getting new countertops.

How much in violation of code would it be to put the control inside the sink base cabinet with a simple single pole switch in a surface mount box? We rarely use the thing, but want to keep it.

I have my GD plugged into a switched outlet that draws it's power from a GFCI. I have my dishwasher plugged into the the GFCI.

Even though it doesn't need to be GFCI protected as it is under the sink, I may have wet hands when I reach under the sink to turn the GD on and off.

Just like to be careful, and protected.
