my garbage disposal is clogged, the water drains very slowly and it regurgitates water after it is turned off. i bet these are fairly common symptoms. do i need to take it apart and clean it inside (yuck) or can it just be plunged ?

thanks.

You will need to disconnect the outlet pipe down under the sink, and clean things out from there. You should not have to reach very far inside the disposer from there. The drain and trap may need cleaning too.

You can try plunging it but I suggest pushing down to drive solid matter further down the drain rather than pulling up and sucking debris up into the disposer under the rotor.
