Garage door

Hey folks,

Couple days ago the garage door was closing and I heard a loud *snap*.

I looked around and didn't notice anything unusual, but then upon looking on the left side, I saw that a cable was very slack now.

The door still opens, but seems to labor quite a bit now.

In doing a little homework, I'm reading things about torsion bars....etc. Is this something I can fix myself? I attached a few photos.

Thanks all for any advice.

Brian

If you disconnect the operator, you probably won't be able to open the door. Best bet is to leave it alone until someone can repair it. Continuing to use it will likely ruin the operator in short order. Torsion springs can break bones and wreck things pretty quickly if you make a mistake during repair. It's obvious you have no experience with them, so do yourself a favor, call in a pro.
