Hey folks,

I looked here with the search feature and did not find exactly what I was looking for.
The garage door opens and stops properly at the fully opened position. When I press the remote or wall switch it does not go back down. I can tell the the lever switch that senses when its fully open works fine by stopping the motor. When I pull the emergency release the garage disengages from the track and then the motor kicks on as if to keep on opening the door. I let go of the emergency release and the track grabs the door, pulls it up and stops when its suppose too. Its a Genie Intellicode H4000A 1/2 hp unit. Should be around 9 years old as it appears to have come with the home. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Check the sensors, if there out of alignment or there's something in the way. It's not going to go down if it thinks somethings in the doorway.

will it go down if you hold the button on the wall? check the sensors like joe said.

Check the wires to the sensors for corrosion, continuity. There should be a green light on, telling you the area is clear. Clean the lenses, sometime they get fouled with dirt, spiders etc.

I had two Genies, would never own another. Their boards are notorious for going bad for no reason.

Yesterday I traced the stop sensors and tracked the stop sensor closer to the motor unit and followed the wire to the board and tapped and tinkered with the capacitors and the stop sensors itself and it started working again. We'll see for how long. Any recommendations for a new one when this one kicks the bucket??

I've installed quite a few Genie's and would only recommend them to my customers, but as jagans said the boards do go bad for some unknown reason. One of my last installs the board went out within a week of installing the unit...I'd recommend a Chamberlin or Sears 1/2 hp unit.

Well first of all I would clean all the contacts with emory, then spray with CRC QD Electronic cleaner.

I own two liftmasters, and like them so far. I had trouble with radio transmitters and receivers with the screw drive Genies, and the tech help treats you like you are an idiot. I hung up after I had to argue with this woman who insisted I plug the unit into another outlet. It went like this:

"I already proved the outlet has power by plugging a corded drill and my air compressor into it"

" My card tells me I have to have you do all the steps."

" OK, Thanks anyway, by the way, take a chance on a tractor"

I recently installed a Sommer brand direct drive opener and think it is great. Very quiet.
