I'm trying to correct some of the problems with my basement french doors. This weekend I resolved the biggest one, the draft and debris that came in from under the door, by removing the rotted door threshold and installing an Endura Z-Articulating Cap. The seal is awesome.

On to the next problem...There is a gap where I can see sunlight at the bottom where the two doors meet. At the top, it is very tight, even too tight such that there is a slight rub when I open and close. What can I do to adjust the gap at the bottom? Is there something I can do at the hinge?

Thanks for any help!

It is approximately 1/16th on each, with the exception of the left bottom corner which is about 1/8th-1/10th inch. For context, the gap where the two doors meet is 0" at the top and about 3/8" inch at the very bottom.

Slow down and read the question.
58 inches between the jams or 59 or ? at the top hinges and and at the bottom hinges?

Thanks for your help. The gap between the doors was there before I installed the new threshold and even when the threshold was removed for a few days. I could cut the threshold, but I suspect that alone won't likely to fix my problems. Can I try shimming under each bottom hinge 1/8" on each side?

Next time you will check everything before you measure. Just because it was wrong before doesn't mean you don't fix it.

I guess shimming will work.

Thanks. The threshold is just dry-fitted so taking 2/8ths off the bottom isn't an issue. I've researched now and it looks like I could either go with a shim or, to do a better job, reset the door frame. Per your advice, I'll fix it right.

You likely have some security screws in the hinges that go right to the framing, you want to find those and re shim the frame so the sides are dead nuts plumb and straight. Make sure you have good shims at the hinges before you replace those long screws. then measure for the threshold.
