Do I need to use galvanized nails for basement framing, I was under the impression that galvanized was for outside work, but someone at work said I should be using galvanized in the basement.

I am currently using 16d common nails for all the framing.

Wood which is in contact with concrete must be PT. PT wood framing must use galvanized nails (or other ACQ approved).

Given the information here, I'd say your co-worker is right. There's little chance that using all common nails in a basement is correct. You aren't required to use all galvanized nails in a basement, but I don't see how you could get away with using none either. Given what you are relaying from your co-worker is hearsay, it's probable he was right.

Unless your basement is wet I don't see any reason to use pressure treated wood inside your house.
Dry up the basement and use regular wood. They don't use pressure treated wood to build the first floor of your house on top of the foundation.

I don't see a need other than maybe bottom plate fasteners. Other than that you should be able to use regular fasteners. If you need to use galvanized then you have a moisture problem and shouldn't be finishing a basement

PT lumber is code for any framing in direct contact with concrete. You can use a gasket, as darren did, or PT. The reason is because concrete is prone to have condensation under certain atmospheric conditions, which means the wood gets wet, even above grade. If you're using PT, you need rated fasteners. My house is concrete (ICF) and even the top plate on top of the walls had to be PT because it was resting on the concrete.
