My understanding is that with an attic fan installed, my home will be much easier to keep cool in the summer months...

I already have a gable vent, and I would rather not have to cut holes in my roof to install roof vents (but will if this will greatly improve effeciency)...so my plan is to install a gable vent fan & ensure I have adequate soffet vents for ventilation.

Any recommendations on fan size / model / etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I would imagine that these gable fan units can be set up with a thermostat to turn 'em on/off...?

Thanks in advance, all inputs welcome.

A ridge vent in conjunction with soffit vents is the best attic ventilation, Natural convection from the soffitt to the ridge with no electricity. That said, a gable end thermostatically controlled fan is a big improvement over nothing else. There is some natural air flow from soffitts to gable, but a fan will help.
