I've noticed that HVAC systems from Goodman, Mr Cool etc have warranties that don't apply to DIY installs. The warranties will have a dubious clause like "any unit purchased over the internet or by telephone is not covered". It feels a little unreasonable, a little disingenuous, particularly Mr Cool that is selling systems to hoards of DIYers through Home Depot and making truckloads of money out it.

Has anyone done a full system DIY install and still gotten the parts and heat exchanger warranty? I will get the line evac and refrigerant charge done by a technician.

Thanks

The best you can hope for is a parts warranty if the startup tech supplies documentation that the unit was professionally installed.
But you’ll get no labor warranty. Which means if it breaks the day after it’s installed, and you have to call a tech, you’ll have to pay him.
With the parts warranty, you’ll also still have to pay for labor. And you’ll be the broker for the warranty part.

A/Cdirect, or one of the other online companies warranties the parts themselves. You'll have to check which one yourself.

We need to start our own union. DIYer rights :vs_box:

Interesting, thank you. I was about to pull the trigger on a bundle from acwholesalers but I'll check them out first.

The manufacturers don't want to warranty parts that got damaged due to poor insulation.

Find a seller that handles the warranty. i believe alpine honours warranties.
