Mine was 40° according to a fridge thermometer. (at recommended setting in fridge). Read that its risky at 40 and should be 35. Turned mine down to 38 and food is freezing.
Where did you read that 40 is risky? And did it say what it was risking for?
Anything below I believe the low 40's and bacterial growth is significantly slowed, which is the point of a fridge.
My refrigerator thermometer says 40 degrees F is the top temp. It's up to you if you want it cooler. Of course, cold air sinks, so it will be colder at the bottom. The food in the door is sl. warmer.
Buy another fridge thermometer, they're cheap. Your fridge may be sl. off, or the thermometer.
I find that in winter, it's colder in the fridge. Makes sense to me. :wink2:
Some bacteria can grow in the refrigerator but 40 degrees is considered safe.
