I have a Maytag side by side fridge that up until now had a big chunk of ice in the fridge. Last week the defrost must have kicked on , thawed the ice. Now the strip around the door is so hot where the rubber molding touches, we had to turn it up to high and my milk is barely cold. The fridge isn't that old but is out of warranty. Suggestions?

mabe stuck in defrost mode.. Don't know how new it is .. Newer ones work off a circuit board

Where was the big chunk of ice exactly? Because if it was on the evaporator cover it could indicate a compressor problem or it could be low on refrigerant, both are bad and would justify a new refrigerator. But I would not know for sure without seeing the chunk of ice and that is obviously impossible.
