I have a closet in my bedroom with a very wide opening. I'd like to make that opening about 8 inches narrower so that I can increase the wall space next to it by enough to put a piece of furniture there. My only concern is that the room and closet have hardwood floors that run continuously throughout.

Do I need to cut away part of the hardwood floor so that I can attach the base plate of this wall extension directly to the subfloor, or is it small enough (about 8 inches) that it shouldn't cause a problem if I attach the base plate directly to the hardwood floor?

Attach it right to the hardwood.No problem

Non load bearing, you can attach it to the floor.

Just as easy to cut it back though.

Get a multi tool and cut it back if it were me.

I was reading that he wants to make the opening smaller. Not the closet.

Cut back the flooring is what I was saying and just lay the plate on the subfloor.

The closet itself will remain the same size...the opening is currently almost the entire 48 inch width of the closet itself...want to narrow that to about 40 inches....
