guys - i'm going to frame a wall, it's a small wall, about 4 ft long, and doesn't but up against another wall. I've read about drawing out the locations of the studs on the header and footer pieces of two by four so they will be plumb alligned. The issue I have is me ceiling slopes slightly, so I'm afraid having identical stud locations drawn on the header and footer wood won't translate to plumb studs.

Any tips/ideas for how to install plumb with a slightly sloping ceiling?

thanks,
Matt

Just place the two end 2 X 4 up temporary to brace the top plate. You should find the slope angle, since you need to cut the 2X4's to this angle to sit correctly on the top plate. Use a plumb bob to find the reference on the top plate from the bottom plate. Now install the studs one by one cutting at the length between your marks with the short part of the angle being your length to cut. Use the bottom lines as your reference for the 16" OC spacing.
