2x4's come in all sorts of lengths. 92 5/8 for 8' walls, a full 8 feet, 104 5/8 for 9' walls, a full 10'. What size wall are you wanting to build?

When the wall gets tall usually engineered manufactured lumber is used because it is stronger and straighter, it resists wind deflection. How high do you want to build?

its a pitched, shingled roof shed. looks to be 4/12
10x8x an odd height.
i would like to add on to the side of the existing shed
making it wider.
How is it siting on the ground with a wood floor of concrete?
Is it free standing or leaning on another building.

Can you post a picture? of the outside and the inside where you would like to add to it, to see the framing?

So that slopes down in the back?

Is it sitting on blocks? what is the floor like?
no it slopes on the sides. the floor is 3/4 osb on a 2x4 floor frame. the frame sits on solid blocks and the solid blocks sit on a concrete slab the side i plan to add on to has a slope so i would essentially be extending the slope on one side out another 8 ft

There could be a problem with frost or moisture in the difference with one end on the slab and what ever you do for the addition.
