Hi,
I have almost finished framing a new closet in my office, before I put the last touches I need to know exactly how much of an opening to leave.

I've read different things on different sites.

I purchased these doors from home depot:
Jeld-wen 30 in. x 96 in. Birkdale White Paint Smooth Hollow Core Molded Composite Interior Closet Bi-fold Door

I will have standard drywall on each side and top.

So I'm thinking my unfinished framed opening should be 61x98, basically half an inch on each side .5+.5 + 30 + 30 = 61 and .5+1.5+98 for height.

Does this sound correct?

Do I also need to plan for space between the doors where they meet? like .25 or .5 inches?

The carpet is medium pile.

Thanks,
Terry

98" doors are really tall. Are you sure of that measurement. It should be around 82" plus your sheetrock and carpet clearance. You could always leave that 1/4" between the doors in case it gets a little tight. Better than trimming off the doors.

We always added 1 1/4 to the width and I believe you only need 1 1/2" inch for the height, for the height we framed all the doors the same and just added another top sill to make it a bi fold.

Yes, we have very tall ceilings. That is the exact description from HD website. Doors are 8' tall.

Thanks,
Terry
