Help! We scraped the popcorn off of our kitchen ceiling, filled in some holes, sanded, and then painted. The paint wasn't adhering in some spots and we realized we should have primed over the drywall first. Is it too late to prime now (over the first coat of paint)? The ceiling looks REALLY bad. What can we do to fix it?

The primer won't help the paint that is already up to adhere
But if you have areas that won't take paint then paint with primer

I am not sure priming would have helped much if you noticed the paint not sticking right away. It sounds like there was dust or residue on the ceiling. Did you clean it before you painted it and if so what did you use and what was your procedure?

Also, if the entire layer of popcorn was not scraped off that can be a problem. The moisture from the paint can cause the layer to peel off

Let the paint completely dry
Scrape any loose chipping paint
Apply a coat of Zinnser Gardz as a primer- this product works wonders

Patch/Skim coat the the ceiling
Sand it
Spot prime areas that you applied heavy coumpound
Paint it
