Does anyone have any knowledge on 1970s Ford 3000?

Year: 1974 (I believe)
Engine: 3 cyl gas

Issue 1: Runs hot, but hasn't run hot long enough to cause damage. No sign of blown head gasket. Coolant isn't perfectly clean, but doesn't show oil. No signs of oil on dipstick. The radiator fins are free of debris and the fan runs as it should.

Issue 2: I'm running a 6' bush hog and the deck slowly falls while mowing. Sometimes it will even raise up then fall again. I'm thinking I have a failing seal somewhere. I'm new to running "larger" tractors so I don't want to tear into it without some advice, especially since we're in full mowing swing.

Ayuh,.... For the overheatin' issue, change the T-stat, flush the coolin' system, 'n refill with fresh antifreeze,....

I was thinking the same thing, but wanted at least a second opinion before digging in. I just ordered a new cap and T-stat from Yesterday's Tractors.
