The chain that connects the toilet flusher to the plug will periodicity get wrapped around the plug, or get twisted, or get hooked on the plug in some way preventing a seal. I've purchased a new chain and plug set and I've tried every Jerry rig I can think of including shortening the chain, putting a float on the chain, even tried making it stiff with a straw, but it keeps happening. Any suggestions.

Set the chain 1-3 links from tight, just slightly loose. Cut off excess chain. There is no way it can get tangled up this way.

Had already tried that. I did hear about using fishing line instead of a chain, so I'm giving that a try.
