Hey guys, i recently bought a house that needs some work and i'm trying to learn as I go. There's a flat area off the garage roof that over hangs a walkway that needs repairing. It's worn down to where you can see the base wood in some sections. The flat area of the roof is about 3 foot wide by 15 foot long. I went to homedepot and was told to put down a layer of henry's 201 after cleaning the old roof off, and then put down liberty cap sheet roll shingle (it's self adhesive) on top of the henry's 201. Does that sound right, and if so how long does the henry's have to dry before i put on the cap sheet? I appreciate any help - Brian

Any advice you get from home cheapo should be taken with a grain of salt. Those guys workign there, for the most part, are absolutely clueless. Occassionally you find an old retured contractor who just wants to stay busy, but mostly young punks who can't get a job anywhere else.

If the roof is worn through in some areas, you have to first fill those areas, or the new roof will have dips and sags in it. I am not familair with 201, is it an ashalt primer? I am not sure why you would need to install that? I think if the roof is as bad as it is, your best bet is to tear off and start over. If you are allowed by code to go over the existing by code, I would fill the spots, mechanically attach a base sheet through the existing, then install the self adhering cap sheet, detail work, etc.

Totally True!! twice I asked an associate if they carried an item. Once was "laminated beams" to the lumber supervisor. He stared blankly having not a clue what it even was. Then I informed him and he said no. Second was "torque wrench". he promptly said no, so I walk on. not ten feet down the isle was an 8' high, 4' wide display of 2 brands and about 6 sizes and options. I pulled one out and showed it to him. he didn't respond and walked off...
