Fixing up a Steel Framed house - Header Question

1878 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  rustyjames
Hi All,

Live in a small town, just bought a fixer-upper and discovered it is steel frame construction. I am very handy and would like to add a window to an existing exterior wall. Do I need to use steel headers or can I put in wood header?

If you are referring to steel studs you will use wood for the jack studs and wood for the header.

+ 1 (agreed).
It can also be done with metal.
Not really. How doe you attach the trim and even the door or window?
Steel Studs

Thanks, will give it a go incorporating a wood header.

There's self-drilling trim screws. It's done every day in commercial construction.
