Fix light switch

1052 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  kbsparky
Usually I can turn on the light by pressing down the switch, but somehow it doesn't work anymore. When I press down, it does not stay and bounds back. How can I fix this?

Please see attached photo.

Much appreciated.

How to replace it? can I get a new one from the shop? Thanks.
You may or may not be able to find a switch exactly like that.

You will need to turn off the power, unscrew that switch from the wall, and measure the space and the spacing between the screw holes. Then find a switch that fits.

It is possible you will end up with a switch of a different style, for example with a toggle that flips up for on and down for off.

A few folks, I would guess those who built model ships and planes in an earlier life, may be able to dissect that switch and repair it.
That looks like the type of switch used in Australia. Where in the world are you?
OK, I will try this.

I am in Australia.
I thought so. Check with a local hardware store or supply house for a replacement switch. It should be an easy task to remove and replace it.

Be sure to switch off the main power before attempting to replace the switch.

Do they still have Mitre10 stores down there? Do they sell that sort of thing?
