Just bought a new home and am already planning my first project. I have 200-300 bricks doing nothing but taking up space. Want to build a fire pit in the backyard. I have never used mortar in brick laying. And also would it be wise to line the inside with fire bricks??? Is it needed?? Thanks for any help!

I used house bricks for a firepit once and found that when the bricks absorb moisture and are then heated by the fire, the moisture turns to steam and its expansion causes the brick to spall.
Perhaps some brick won't absorb moisture and wouldn't be a problem.
I used the same type of brick for a walkway and when the moisture froze the brick crumbled.
I now use a discarded truck rim for my pit.
