Happy New Year to all,

We have an indoor fireplace made out of a cast sections and looks like a hard light sand material. The internal pattern is a cast herringbone, essentially there are no bricks or stones anywhere.

My goal is to repaint the inside w the proper high temp black spray paint, but the back wall has some small pieces missing where it looks pitted. I would first like to fill-in these pits and wanted to know what would be the best material to do so. Since I have access to some hard oak wood [really seasoned and hard], some of logs when put it hit the back wall and caused the issues. I can send some pics if that would help.

thank you very much for your experience and suggestions,
tstex

Three views here w zoom in greater each time. Thanks for your feedback.

Also, once the holes & cracks filled, do you have a paint type & recommendation ?

I had some leftover black heat paint from a job and decided to clean and paint my shop stove. Within a few months every bit of that expensive heat paint had burned off. I second the suggestion to skip the paint. ..... unless you just want to beautify it with no intentions of using the fireplace.

Thanks 67 & Mark.

The fireplace was originally painted black by home builder. I too had some intense fires and burned off the paint. We are selling the house in the summer and to restore it to its original condition, I was going to spray paint it w a 1500-2000 temp flat black. The other houses around me that did not ever use their fireplace, they too still have the black flat matte look. This is why I feel compelled to paint it.

Thanks again - tstex
