Fireplace bumper

I installed a rubber bumper on the edge of the fireplace hearth area, as I was concerned about our grandchildren falling and injuring themselves on the brick. The adhesive tape that came with the bumper doesn't seem up to the task of holding it in place, especially when toddlers grab on to it. I'm hoping somebody has a better suggestion to hold it in place. I'll attach a couple of photos. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I'm familiar with your problem. One option would be to install a piece of 3/4" wood to the face of the bricks. The holes drilled to attach it can easily be filled when removed, if you ever remove it. That wood can be rounded as desired or covered as you are trying to do.
