I own a three family 230sq m(2500 sq feet) house. I'm really interested in getting a sprinkler system. I read online that retrofit cost about $2-3 per sq foot. So it would be something like $8000 to do the whole house. That would be good, but the number seems kind of low to me. I only have 3/4 in supply pipe, so I would probabaly need a second water meter as well. I live in Boston and because of union mafia not allowing anyone except for certified "pros" doing plumbing, the prices are astronomical. So unfortunately DIY is completely out of question here.

Does anyone have personal experience with getting their houses sprinkled? What did it cost you? Was it done in plastic or metal?

Your best bet is to get out the phone book. Get bids and proceed from there.
Fire protection is highly regulated no matter where you live. I doubt the "Boston mafia" has much to do with it.
