Looks like its next to the cold air return grill. Its closer than I would put it. Really need to check the MFG specs on clearances to combustibles. I would be surprised if said Zero clearance to combustibles.

Thank you. Fortunately, I don't live there. Was looking at places & this just seemed wrong but I can't cite codes :} If it's the cold air return grill - that's metal, right? None of it makes sense to me.

Air return grill most are metal- /hinged-& air filter behind them- don't look like you can open this one... looks as metal return grill is just being used for a shield or just some where to put it??? Take the temp of the wall....Looks too close to me but I am not a fireplace installer.

That's just crazy. I don't know what stove that is but I can pretty much guaranty they have completely ignored any and all manufacturer's clearance specs.

I have a (good quality) stove and they get HOT! I've had mine hot enough to turn the top cherry red.

There is also no hearth.... which is code in most places I know of.

I would guess that if an insurance company saw that, they would be uninsurable.

Not necessarily.

Indeed there seems to be some form of closet or utility room on that wall where the grille is so I would not be surprised to see that it is a return grille... otherwise I could not see the logic in placing the stove that close.

At any rate if it is a return grille then it leads to another problem... that stove is effectively blocking much of the return air.

Also looks ugly, and takes up more space than needed IMO.... I am not heat expert I am in Florida & most heat in my area is electric heat strips. Common sense tells me this install is NOT correct!! IF common sense is so common-where can I buy some??
