I posted on here a few weeks back for some suggestions for a door at the bottom of my basement stairs. I settled on a French style double door and finally have the drywallers coming to mud and texture next week. The last issue I'm dealing with is a support pole somewhat in the middle of the room. The room is about 25' x 20' and the pole is about 4' in from one wall and about centered on the 25' run. Eventually I will be building a bar that will be in the location (the pole will be encased by the bar so you will only see the top 3' or so). Any suggestions on how to finish around it? Do people typically just frame a stud on 2 sides and hang drywall or would a better idea be to encase it with wood to match the trim?

It's not ideal but with the span it had to be there unless I wanted to pay God knows how many thousands to replace the support beam with a steel I-beam.

It's ****ty having it come up through the bar but it is what it is so I want to try to blend it in as much as possible. I had 2 drywallers come over to give me a bid on mudding/spraying, the first guy recommended running a 2x4 along each side and just drywalling it but the second guy didn't agree and said everyone he does work for would get wood to match the rest of the trim. I've tried doing some Google searches but you can't exactly type in "framing around a pole in the middle of a room" so I'm struggling to find pictures of anything to get an idea of eat would look best. I can't imagine I'm the only person that has an issue like this so if anyone here has dealt with this I'd love to here what you did

Ignore the chairs in the background, just had some people over the other day and haven't moved them. Anyway, idk if this helps the suggestions at all but this is what I'm working with. I'm not sure if you can see in the picture but there is green tape on the floor marking where the bar will be as well as peice of tape on the pole showing the height the bar will be. The bar won't be finished for a while so I will encase the entire pole for now then frame around it.

if it was mine if its actually in the bar i would weld some hooks or shelves to it for liquor or beer mugs and paint it nice. The thing that sucks about wrapping it into a lally column if its not in the bar is you are making it bigger and more in the way of traffic.

i like the idea of incorporating these into your bar somehow.
