Does anybody make a converter or know how to make one to switch from 20x25x4 to 20x20(25?)x1 filters? These things are huge and expensive.

Wow, I went the other route to use a 4 inch mechanical filter so it wouldn't require replacement as often.

I have seen a long spring, like those used in old screen doors, used to hold the filter to the furnace side of the mechanical filter rack.

It looked like the rack had a spot to catch the spring.
I don't remember if it was a Carrier or Honeywell filter rack.

A 1 inch pleated filter might reduced your airflow.
I recommend checking the heat rise across the furnace.

I would do the math before changing it. I can get 2 years out of my 20x25x5 filter. The filter costs $20.00 purchased online.

I guess I have a combination issue. The return is undersized so the unit only works right, if door to closet the unit is in, is left open. Original owner cut hole in second floor/closet ceiling, size of return duct 8x24, I added 8x12 through wall above door so I am still 152 sq. in. short. I guess if you use size of unit to determine the proper size. 20 x 22.

The other problem is the unit is too large for the closet so getting the 20x25x4 in and out is way too hard! :furious: The other reason I want to drop to 1"
