I have countless uneven areas in my lawn as you can see in the photos.
My OCD goes into convulsions when I step on the lawn because of how uneven it is.

My friend has 5 cubic feet of left over top soil that he gave me to fill in
the uneven areas.

Should I put grass seed down under the top soil OR on top of the top soil
OR should I NOT put grass seed down at all because the current grass will grow though? :vs_worry::vs_worry::vs_worry:

Thanks in advance for those that respond!!!!!!:smile::smile::smile:

I think it depends on where you are and what the soil is like under your lawn. I always regret if I don't have the lawn rototilled, remove roots that have grown, rake out debris, test soil, fertilize/amend, rake it in, wait a few days while watering, then apply seed, rent a roller and pack it down.

If I just try to fill in holes, I always end up regretting it. I'm not too OCD, except for my creations like a lawn. It's very satisfying & good exercise.

Here's a less labor intensive route -
