Hello again and thanks for responding,

Just beginning to paint inside my house...few questions...

1) Talked to Benj Moore dealer...should I go with Aura paint that doesn't need primer? Other options is the Moorestyle at $53.00 CAD and Collection at $62.00

or maybe I should go with Pittsburgh paint at $44.00 CAD ?

2) Can I use a decently priced primer for the walls, or go with Benj Moore = a bit pricier...basically is it the paint or the primer or both that make the difference?

3) She said to go with Pearl throughout the house, that most people use eggshell and then pearl in the bathroom only...

4) I have popcorn ceiling, she said to just paint with an oil based color, no priming needed...and I think with oil based ceiling it would be easier to paint the wall first, tape it off and then finish with ceiling...is that right?

Thats aBOUT IT...THANKYOU FOR HELPING ME OUT!

1. Did they quote you any of the Regal line? That would be my preference. I have used Pittsburgh paint and it did just fine.

2. Sounds like you already have painted walls, so unless you have a troubled area or a deep color to cover, no priming is needed. Latex will stick to clean latex all day long.

3. Pearl is between Eggshell and Semi-gloss. Use pearl if Semi is too shiny (sheen) yet you need scrubbability. Eggshell is most commonly used as it has just enough sheen to be somewhat scrubbable but no so shiny like semi-gloss that can make every imperfection in the wall stand out.

4. Maybe the dealer mis-spoke. Never put oil based paint over latex. Even on a popcorn ceiling. They should have pointed you towards the Muresco Ceiling White (That is a Benjamin Moore product) and can be tinted to a different color. See if they have the 2 gallon size. The larger the popcorn, the thicker the roller nap you are going to need.

Do the ceiling first. The ceiling may leave tiny roller splatters on the wall that painting the wall will cover up. Unless you flip your house over you can't have roller splatter on the ceiling.

Thankyou for the info...

1. Regal Line...yes she quoted those at $30.00 per pail, but she (a Benj Moore dealer) wanted me to look more at Moorestyle, Collection and Aura

2. The reason I have to prime first is this house hasn't been painted in 20 years or so!

3. Pearl is between Eggshell and Semi-gloss. (Thanks for the info)

4. The dealer gave me "Ceiling alkyd flat" paint...she said that you need to use alkyd on popcorn ceilings..???

She told you to use the oil over the popcorn because most drywall finishers never primed before applying their popcorn finish. In those cases, the latex paint can loosen the bond between the drywall and the popcorn causing it to come down. Good luck
