i am a handy guy but have never installed a fence post,

i do not have much experience working with concrete,

the post is actually for a large birdhouse that will be mounted on top of the post, that will weigh about 20-30 pounds,

not sure if i will go 4x4 or 6x6 yet, looking at being about 8-10 feet from the ground up, so im assuming i should go 3-4 feet into the ground?

any tips or links to articles or videos on how to install a very sturdy fence post? (as easy as possible) im assuming concrete is a must?

If using pipe , get threaded pipe, at least on one end, screw on a cap, then use a heavy shop hammer, to pound it in.

Then remove the cap, and have a metal plate welded, epoxied , etc to the cap, and bolt your house to the plate.

If you cannot get high enough to hammer safely, use two or three shorter joints, connected with collars.

There's no reason to "bang "the pipe in. Use a post hole digger and go below the frost line or the depth you want if there's no frost line. Put the pipe in and fill the hole with gravel. I usually sleeve the pipe. Bury a larger diameter pipe and slide the other pipe inside. This way I can remove it easily for repairs and such. Chain link fencing pipe works well as it comes in various diameters.

hacksaw off a 4" section of pipe at an angle to the pipe's bottom has a sharp 'spear' end,,, far's banging it, 8" sledge will work fine if your soil's 1/2 decent

drill a couple holes at the top & bolt on short vertical 2x4's - after that, build a platform for your birdhouse on top

btw, ron's is gorgeous !
