So we thought we followed instructions before winter.
Shutoff the inside home valve.
Drained the inside home spout.
Turned both valves to 45 degrees on Febco.
Opened the ends of the small nozzles.
Turned on sprinkler all zones a couple of times.

Still burst. Live near Denver, Colorado.

1) What did we do wrong?
2) Can we service or replace just the 1" shutoff valves without replacing the 765? Or is it likely busted inside there also if both the shutoff valves on either side of it broke through the brass.

I'm asking bc I don't know how to sweat copper and was hoping to not hire it out.

And I guess 3) Can we get these somewhere (2 of the shutoff valves or a whole new 765-1 for cheaper than the box stores?

Thanks!!!!!!

Did you use air to evacuate the lines prior to shut down? You can't leave water in pipes or it will freeze. Unless you have a positive way of draining everything without air

I dont see any mention off blowing out the lines outside with air after shutting off the system. The vacuum breaker needs to be completely empty of water before freezing weather. It's easier to just replace the Febco 765 than to try to replace just the valves. The 1" 765 Febco is under $90.00 with unions, so you can bring it inside in the winter.
