Hi,
My furnace is short cycling. 3 techs have gone through the usual list of suspects but not able to figure out what's wrong. Finally a tech is onto something. Nordyne tech support told him it's a collector box issue. My model number is FG7TC 060D-VB. I read online that there is a bulletin out about the faulty collector box and a solution. Can somebody guide me to it.

Also, I was told to jump the pressure switches that are connected to the collector box and that should solve the problem. I used 5 amp car fuses to jump orange and purple wires. However, the problem still exists. If it really was the collector box issue, shouldn't it work with jumped switches?

Thanks for responding to both the questions!

You DO NOT jumper any pressure switch and that is DANGEROUS advice. They are there to prove there is enough air for safe combustion of the gas in the burner. Not sure what the issue is with Nordyne but the new collector box should solve it. From what I heard it has to do with the diameter/size of the port on it that the switch hose connects too. Lennox had a similar problem and had to redesign the port on one model. Kept getting plugged with crud and blocking.

The bulletin is usually only available to their dealers along with the box which should be under warranty.

Thanks Yuri. Here is what I'm trying to do now. I found this on a different forum. Not sure which port they are talking about.

"The 2 ports on the condenser box get blocked with water intermittently. He said there was a tech bulletin about this problem from Nordyne and the solution is to put a small tube inside the port that extends inside a little bit just to prevent the water from sliding down the wall and plugging the hole."

I've managed to talk the inducer motor out but this black cover is glued to the body of the furnace...it has grey putty all around and can't take it off. Any advice on that?

Thanks,
Aarish

We had a poster who was a machinist and he machined a insert and put it in that port. I don't see many or very few Nordynes so I don't recognise it. If they have a collector box that solves the problem with a better port I would get it. Lennox bevelled the surface on the back of the port on the one with an issue and that solved it. Sounds kinds bush league to stick a " small tube" in. What size of tube? Do they supply it? Like I say Nordyne is not what I see or do much of so I cannot really help.
